Israeli Terrorism
As the war in Gaza raged, Israel Defense Forces reservists apparently thought anything was permissible: It was possible, maybe even necessary, to kill innocents, in the West Bank, too. Under cover of war, they thought, they could also kill a handcuffed Palestinian.
After all, they could always claim he tried to steal their weapons - never mind that he was bound with plastic handcuffs practically impossible to get out of. A bullet in the stomach from close range finished him off. Thus ended the life of Yasser Temeizi, 35, who had a work permit and jobs in Israel all of his adult life; in the past year he had worked for the Harash company in Ashdod. He was a young father who'd never gotten in any trouble with the IDF before. The soldiers arrested him for no reason, beat him for no reason in front of one of his small children and finally executed him for no reason.

a few days ago ... nba player marko jaric ... i refer to him as player because that's all he is ... he's not a star or anything ... these are his averages for the season ... 1.7 points, 1 rebound, and 1.3 assists ... but it doesn't matter what his numbers are ... because he married victoria's secret model adriana lima ...
and today ... we learn that tom brady ... the patriots star quarterback ... has married victoria's secret model gisele bundchen ...
moral of the story: lingerie models like rich athletes

one down ... ten to go

i finished reading the first of the eleven books that i bought the other day ...
the book being alice's adventures in wonderland ... i think everyone here has at least heard of that book seeing as how it is a classic ... perhaps even familiar with most of the characters thanks to the disney movie ...
i had barely started the book ... but thanks to the five hour bus ride to dammam i took today i was able to easily finish it ... it's not a very long book so that wasn't really an accomplishment ...
anyway ... there's really no story to the book ... at least none that i could tell ... it's exactly what the title says it is ... alice's adventures in wonderland ... which are just a series of seemingly unconnected events ... basically alice is a little girl who falls down a rabbit-hole at the beginning of the book ... and that is where the adventures start ... from that point on in the story ... alice is constantly shrinking and growing in size whenever she eats or drinks something ... meeting all kinds of nutty characters along the way and having - or at least trying to have - conversations with them ... i think my favorite was the hookah-smoking caterpillar ... but this wonderland as it turns out in the end is all a dream ... which i thought was kind of anti-climactic ...
still despite the somewhat lame ending ... it's a very clever and funny book ... although i'm pretty sure the author must have been on something when he wrote it ... he had to be ...
if you have already read alice in wonderland and like this type of nonsensical slash witty humor ... you should read this book ...

A Day In The Life Of
well today was a normal day at work ... i had a meeting with the new boss this morning ... i think i'm pretty pleased with the way that went ... good first impression ... he knows i exist thanks to email but that was our first one-on-one time ...
i booked my flight online today ... for those who don't know i'm going to beirut for a week ... went to the bank to pay the fare during my lunch break ... i picked up some food like i normally do on the way home from work ... for today it was one small spicy pizza from little caesars ... and one small order of cheese bread ... showered ... and drove out to the airline office to get my ticket ... the airline is called sama and it's a private one ... i went with it because it's much cheaper than say flying with saudi airlines ... less than half the price actually ... so yeah their office is really far away ... it's all the way at the end of olaya ... but thanks to my google maps print-out i made it there without getting lost ... anyway so i get there at eight and they have one of those number queue systems ... when i got there it was number 71 and my number was 82 ... anyway there were only two counters working and i guess some people got sick of waiting ... because some guy came up to me and asked me what my number was ... i told him it's 82 ... he said here have mine ... he was 79 ... and left ... i was like wow thanks man ... anyway so after a painfully boring wait i got my ticket and my flight was confirmed ... i leave next friday and return the friday after that ...
on the way home i passed by this bookstore that recently opened close to my house ... for those who live in saudi it's a jarir bookstore ... a huge one ... for those outside saudi and have no idea what jarir is ... well it's a bookstore ... but like their motto says ... "not just a bookstore" ... anyway so i was like why don't i pop in ... i need a book for the plane anyway ... besides i never read anymore ... so i was like yallah ... an hour later i walk out with eleven books i just bought ... i'm not kidding ... i have enough books for the rest of the year now ... the books are ...
- tuesdays with morrie: i used to always see this book at bahrain airport when i was traveling back and forth between beirut and dammam during my college years ... and i would always pick it up and ponder buying it but i never did ... well i finally did ... plus i heard a lot of good things about this book.
- the road: written by cormac mccarthy ... that's the same guy who wrote no country for old men ... which i have not read ... but i did see the movie and i thought it was brilliant ... so that was why i got this book ... plus it won a pulitzer so it has to be good right?
- lord of the flies: a famous classic ... we had to read it in school but i never did ... i just used spark notes hehe ... well now i want to read it.
- the art of war: i've heard of it before and it definitely seems interesting ... the only non-fiction book i bought today.
- holes: i've never heard of this book but i have heard of the author louis sachar ... he wrote there's a boy in the girls bathroom ... i know that sounds like a silly title but it's actually an awesome book ... so i'm hoping this one will be as good.
- girls of riyadh: english translation of the famous book banat ilriyadh ... i remember seeing this book at virgin megastore back in beirut during college ... and thinking what a bunch of crap ... but now that i live in riyadh ... i find myself strangely compelled to read it.
- to kill a mockingbird: another classic ... always been on my want-to-read list ... i've never seen the movie by the way ... i hear it's also good.
- slam: again i've never heard of this book but i have heard of the author nick hornby ... he wrote high fidelity which i actually wrote about on here once upon a time ... that was a great book.
- the adventures of sherlock holmes: i've read a bunch of sir arthur conan doyle's sherlock books ... hound of the baskervilles ... the valley of fear ... the sign of four ... and i enjoyed them ... so i figured i would enjoy this book as well.
- alice's adventures in wonderland: another classic i've never read ... it was the cheapest book out of the eleven ... only 15 riyals ... it's also the thinnest one.
- one hundred years of solitude: by the same dude who wrote love in the time of cholera ... which i have not read nor seen the movie but i know of both ... anyway this book's a nobel prize winner ... plus the description on the back seems pretty interesting.
now the question is ... which one should i start with ... hmmmm ...

The Brothers Solomon

i watched the movie the brothers solomon tonight ... let me start by saying that this is one of the funniest movies i've seen in a while ... i guess the simplest way to describe it is that it's a male version of baby mama ...
will arnett (john solomon) and will forte (dean solomon) are brothers ... forte is also the one who wrote the movie by the way ... anyway so the two play extremely dorky brothers who live together ... one day they get a call from their dad telling them he's in the hospital and that they need to come as soon as they can ... but by the time they get there he's already slipped into a coma ... so they decide to give him a reason to recover ... by giving him a grandson ... but being extremely dorky they have a hard time finding anyone willing to have their baby ... so in the end they decide that the best way to go is to hire a surrogate mother ... played by forte's fellow snl cast member kirsten wiig ... and so as not to give the whole movie away ... let's just say the rest of the movie follows their pregnancy adventures...
the movie is absolutely hilarious ... i give it a 9/10 ... the plot's kind of lame and predictable but if you're going to watch this movie then you're only doing it for the laughs anyway ... not for anything else ... so you shouldn't care too much about that ...

so the oscars are in a few days and heath ledger is a nominee in the best supporting actor category for his role as the joker in "the dark knight" ... it's so obvious he's going to win isn't it ... i'd be really surprised if he didn't ... not because he deserves it necessarily ... i mean he was brilliant and all ... but that's not why i'd be surprised if he didn't win it ...

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures
Its electronic gadgetry is gathering dust on the shelves of high street stores, nobody is buying new fridges and the mountain of unsold plasma televisions is growing by the day.
However, in desperation, Panasonic has hit on the perfect counter-attack against the consumer slump: it has ordered every member of staff to go out and buy £1,000 of Panasonic products.
Large swathes of corporate Japan are expected to follow suit, either by directly commanding or indirectly “pressuring” employees to divert part of their salaries towards the goods that their employers produce.
Toyota has already tacitly applauded a “voluntary” scheme in which 2,200 of its top brass decided to buy new Toyota cars, and the president of Fujitsu recently e-mailed 100,000 staff and gently pointed out how nice it would be if “employee ownership rates” of Fujitsu PCs and mobile phones were a little higher.
The 10,000 Japanese staff affected by Panasonic’s unorthodox strategy do not have long to consider their purchases.
Management insists that staff buy their Panasonic goods — whether they need them or not — by the end of July.
Upper-level managers, all of whom have been “encouraged” for years to fill their homes with Panasonic goods as a symbol of corporate loyalty, are being asked to spend at least 200,000 yen (£1,500).
A Panasonic spokesman said that because the “Buy Panasonic” request was made to management-level employees, the company did not expect refusal rates to be high.

Song of the Day
Artist: Toad the Wet Sprocket
Track: Desire
I want to be clean, I want to be whole
I want revenge, I want control
I want to give up, I want to give in
Destroy all I have been
I want to be cruel, I want to be cold
I want a chance to sell my soul
I want to break out, I want to dive in
To lose myself in sin
I don't need anything
I'm just wanting
Just wanting
I don't need anything
I'm just wanting
Just wanting
Desire all desire is
Desire feeds desire
Desire all desire is
Desire breeds desire
I want to scream, I want to shout
I want to have faith and never doubt
I want to bend, I want to break
To sleep and never wake
To break down walls and to escape
Be alone and hide my face
I want to feel, I want to touch
Want to stop wanting it so much
I don't need anything
I'm just wanting
Just wanting
I don't need anything
I'm just wanting
Just wanting

so it seems jessica simpson is getting some flak for putting on a little weight ... apparently she has to stay in "daisy duke shape" for the rest of her life ... they did the same thing to britney a while ago ... remember when she performed at the vma's ... and people were like wow she got fat ... apparently having kids is not a valid excuse for no longer looking like you did when you were still a teenager ...
well ... here's my two cents on this whole matter ... i'd still do them ...
oh wait ... you probably thought i was going to make some sort of comment on the unfair pressure placed by the media on women to look a certain way ... well yeah there's that too i guess ...

Zack And Miri Make A Porno

i watched the movie zack and miri make a porno ... the movie is directed by kevin smith ... seth rogen plays zack and elizabeth banks plays miri ... as the name of the movie suggests ... it's pretty filthy ... a lot of f-bombs being dropped ... some nudity as well ... but it's also pretty funny ... so if you like filthy and funny ... you might like this movie ... also behind all the vulgarity ... there is a soft romantic side to the movie ... still it's not exactly titanic either ...
basically the movie is about zack and miri ... two friends who have known each other since childhood ... they live together but they are just friends ... anyway they hit a rough patch and need to find a way to pay their bills ... so they decide to make a porno ... i could go on but that's really all you need to know to decide if you want to watch this movie or not ...
like i said i only recommend it if you're into filthy and funny ... but even if you are willing to watch it ... keep in mind that it's nothing special ... a very average movie ... i give it a 6/10 ... i would've given it a lower score but i liked the fact that it was short ... plus justin long's cameo was very funny ...
Meanwhile In Gaza
i was browsing my usual websites today morning ... when i came across this piece of news ... the first paragraph says ...
An Israeli helicopter fired two missiles at a Palestinian security compound in the city of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip early on Thursday.
my initial reaction was not ... oh no they're bombing gaza again ... actually it was ... what, you mean to tell me that there are security compounds still standing in gaza ... but then i continued reading ...
The Hamas-affiliated de facto government compound was damaged, but no injuries were reported. The building had already come under fire during Israel’s three-week war on the Gaza Strip that left 1,373 Palestinians dead.
so now they are just bombing rubble ... great ...

High Hopes
Jordanian Foreign Minister Salah Bashir said Amman hopes the next Israeli government will be committed to conducting "serious and efficient" negotiations with the Palestinians.
Bashir was quoted by the Petra news agency as saying Wednesday that the Hashemite Kingdom also hoped the new government would halt settlement construction in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

it's not clear if bashir was high off his rocker at the time of the interview ...
in other news ... i hope that management decides to quadruple my salary ... i also hope that they decide to make me ceo ...

Lame Status

i have this idea for a new category dedicated to lame facebook statuses ... it's not going to be a daily thing but whenever i come across something worthy ... i will post it ... much like the "dunk of the day" ...
now as we all know ... 99% of our facebook friends are not really our friends ... or maybe they were once upon a time ... but it makes us feel good to have a large number of friends ... even if it is only on screen ... and we all have that curiosity to browse other people's profile pages ... so we accept them as our friends ... clearly i have no problem with publicly mocking their statuses on my blog so i guess that says a lot about our so-called friendship ... anyway ... i give you today's winner ...
**** ****** is.................walla i dont know what **** is at the moment.

so my boss wanted me to email him something ... did i mention my boss is an idiot ... well he is ... anyway he wanted me to email him something ... so i did ... now this "thing" consists of two parts ... let's just call them x and y ... but apparently he only wanted x ... so he replies saying didn't you read my email ... i asked you to email me x ... i don't need y right now ... i was like huh ... i did send you x you fool ... what's the harm if i sent y along with it ... you're going to need it anyway ... so just take x for now and leave y for later when you need it ... and i actually wanted to send him a reply saying that more or less ... but as i was typing it i was like fuck it why bother ... he's leaving us in a few weeks anyway ... so i deleted my entire reply and sent him a blank email as a reply instead ... with only x as an attachment ... idiot ...

Joaquin Phoenix says there's no hoax about it: He really has given up acting to become a hip-hop musician. Phoenix has been spending his time laying down tracks for a rap album in the recording studio he built at his home, the two-time Academy Award nominee said Tuesday in an interview to promote what he claims is his final movie, "Two Lovers."

Quote of the Day
"I just figured it was another commercial until I looked up," another viewer tells the Arizona Daily Star. "Then he did his little dance with everything hanging out."
Super Bowl viewers in Tucson, Arizona, saw a different kind of action during Sunday night's big game after a station's broadcast of the Super Bowl was interrupted for approximately thirty seconds by an adult film.

Durban dock workers are expected to refuse to off-load an Israeli ship as part of a week of action against "apartheid" Israel, Cosatu and the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) said on Tuesday.
Cosatu spokesperson Patrick Craven and PSC spokesperson Salim Vally said dock workers would refuse to off-load the ship arriving on Sunday, February 8, as part of a refusal to support oppression and exploitation across the globe.
SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) general secretary Randall Howard said the union's members were committed to not handling Israeli goods.

Restraint?
"Hello there. From now until election day I plan to appear every day and give a daily message. We must not go back to the days of the Kadima government's restraint," Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video message.
Anyone visiting Netanyahu's website, or searching for it on Youtube, will be able to view the opposition leader's daily address to the nation, which he plans to make for the next seven days.

just wondering
what about the tunnels in jerusalem ...
An Egyptian security official at the Egypt-Gaza border says U.S. Army engineers have arrived at the frontier to set up ground-penetrating radar to detect smuggling tunnels.
The officials say the new equipment would help stop the smuggling in the area, which has been the main entrance for weapons and explosives used by the Palestinian militant group Hamas against Israel.
Inside the Rafah terminal on Sunday, four army trucks loaded with wooden crates and drills could be seen accompanied by four U.S. Army engineers.

right now it's pretty much a pile of rubble ... but not completely ... still it's pretty bad ... and will likely get worse ...
now ...
you can rebuild it or destroy what's left of it ...
it's up to you ...
or if you don't want to do anything at all ... you can just sit there and lament your bad fortune ...
obviously rebuilding it is the best choice ...
but it's also the hardest one ...
Shameless
The Israeli emergency clinic at the Erez crossing, which opened on the day Israel declared a ceasefire in Gaza two weeks ago, has closed after treating only five wounded Palestinians.
The original purpose of the clinic, according to press releases, was to provide emergency care and evacuate those needing further care to hospitals in Israel.
Gynecologists, pediatricians, general practitioners and trauma specialists were available at the clinic, which was operated by the Health Ministry and Mada (Israel's national emergency, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service).
Foreign press and aid workers said the clinic was merely a publicity stunt. Scores of journalists were invited to its opening day.
