i was always a sonics fan for as long as i can remember .. and shawn kemp was my favorite player .. then one day the sonics ceased to exist .. and they became the okc thunder .. so i became a thunder fan .. though not immediately i must admit .. anyway here's the thing .. now there's talk about an nba franchise possibly being revived in seattle .. it's still just talk but it might happen .. the thing is even if it does happen the thunder would continue to exist .. so now i'm like hmmm ..

victory

just finished watching game 7 of the thunder grizzlies series ... and the thunder win!!! ... and advance to face the mavericks in the conference finals ... uh oh ... they swept the lakers remember ... anyway let me bask in the glory of the win for a bit ... the game got off to a shaky start but once okc got it going they never looked back ... i was afraid they would have another second half meltdown which they had a few of during this series ... and to their credit memphis made a few solid runs at them but it was never enough ... durant with dunk after dunk after three after three ... a stellar performance from him ... harden raining the threes ... westbrook with a triple double ... btw the last player to get a triple double in a game 7 was pippen in 92 ... so kudos to westbrook ... nick collison was the unsung hero of the game ... hustling and defending randolph well ... never allowing him to take over like he's been doing all playoffs long ... wouldn't it be grand if okc made it to the finals ... durant and westbrook vs lebron and wade ... that would be terrific to watch ... anyway i'm just so glad they won ... it was a hard fought series ... they deserved to win it after that triple ot game ... game 1 against dallas is on tuesday ... i'll probably miss it since it's at 4 am local time ... oh well ... that's life ... you work so you can pay for a big tv and a jazeera subscription and then miss the games ... you can never have it all ... in closing ... i leave you with this nice sportscenter top ten ... actually it's a not top ten :)

well the first round of the playoffs is over ... two upsets ... well one major upset and another not so major upset ... the major one being obviously the grizzlies beating the spurs ... i mean here is a team who had never won a playoff game coming into this series ... and they take out the #1 seed ... and they would have done it in 5 had san antonio not gotten so lucky at the end of that game ... the not so major upset was the hawks beating the magic ... it was an upset because nobody had the hawks winning ... also because of how thoroughly the magic beat them last year ... but the hawks did it ... still it wasn't that major as this was the four seed vs the 5 seed so ...
moving on ... second round matchups ... the most interesting one by far is miami vs boston ... oh baby that's gonna be something special ... lakers vs mavericks as well ... i think it's safe to say that the winners of these two series will face off in the finals ...

durant is the man

little background ... i am a thunder fan ... used to be a sonics fan ... but then they moved to okc so i became a thunder fan ... i have to admit i didn't make the switch immediately but i did eventually ... moving on ... game 5 of the thunder nuggets series was today ... when i left for work the nuggets were up by 5 in the fourth quarter ... the thunder are up 3-1 and just need one more win but if the nuggets take this one too game 6 will be in denver ... uh oh ... anyway i got home ... put the tv on and i swear they were bringing the final score of the game ... thunder won ... i was like OH BABY ... they face the winner of the grizzlies spurs series ... crazy ending to game 5 of that series ... let's hope memphis can close it out at home ... i'd rather have the thunder face them than the spurs ...

the sports hour

if you are a diehard nba fan like myself ... the nba playoffs are an orgasm to you ... ahhhh ... the intense crowds ... the fights ... the buzzer beaters ... the sound of marv albert calling the game ... it's just too beautiful ...
i have been in jeddah for almost seven months now ... i just got a satellite dish ... and why did i get it ... that's right ... so i can watch the playoffs ... i can't watch the games live because of time zone issues ... although sometimes i'll wake up for work and put the tv on while i get dressed and it will be the 4th quarter live ... i'll catch a few minutes then head out ... but i've been not checking the scores then watching the reruns as if they were live ... which works for me ... i don't have to see it live ...
i've seen quite a few games ... my thunder barely escaping the nuggets at home ... durant and westbrook saved the day ... there was that controversial tip-in by perkins at the end but hey we won haha ... so i'm happy about that ...
i saw game 2 of the bulls pacers series ... quite a close one but chicago made it ... although rose is having to work really hard for them to win ... and this is just the first round ... against the eighth seed for God's sake ... so you have to wonder how long he can keep this up in the later rounds ...
watched boston new york today ... game 2 ... poor knicks ... they lost billups in game 1 and now they lost stoudemire in game 2 ... fortunately they still have melo who put on quite a show although he did have some major chokes so it wasn't a flawless performance ... also they lost so ... anyway tough break ... quite an intense game but boston was just the better team ...
i could write my thoughts on all the series but i'll just leave it at commenting on the ones i've actually watched ... thanks for tuning in ...

jundi's life

well we got our salaries early this month ... just before christmas ... and with a nice bonus to go with it ... so that was nice ... i decided to do some mini-shopping ... i went to ikea and bought some things ... no furniture ... just things ... like i bought a clock ... and some plates ... why did i buy plates ... well i don't own any plates ... i was using plastic up until now ... i have bowls ... but no plates ... i bought some other stuff but i don't have to tell you every item i bought ... or do i ... no i don't ... anyway ... i also went to saco ... that's a hardware store chain here in saudi ... very famous ... love saco ... though the one here in jeddah is kind of lame ... the riyadh one was so much better ... place was like a mall ... anyway ... so i bought a toaster ... i also got a snuggie ... see i didn't go in there thinking i was going to buy anything ... i just went in there to walk around ... but i was like hey a toaster ... i make sandwiches almost everyday so why not ... speaking of sandwiches ... you know what's a good one ... peanut butter and nutella ... it's really good ... but i digress ... so then i was like hey a snuggie ... that can come in handy when i'm laying on the couch playing ps3 so why not ... yeah it's a hardware store but they have random things like snuggies ... they even have a sports equipment section ... they have the shake weight ... no kidding ... what else ... oh yeah they had high school musical skateboards in the sports equipment section ... which i thought was pretty ironic ... because i don't think there is anything more anti-skateboarding culture than hsm ... moving on ... i was driving home today ... i was on the highway ... and it was kind of dark ... and i see this thing in front of me in the distance ... i'm like huh ... and i realize it's a guy ... he's standing in the middle of the lane ... i was on the left lane btw so i'm going pretty fast ... and he wasn't even facing the oncoming cars ... he was looking the other way ... just standing there ... i had to swerve to avoid him ... if there was someone next to me i would have hit them ... i would love to know what the fuck he was doing ... was he trying to commit suicide or what ... maybe it was jinn ... i don't know really ... but that was weird ... what else ... i started listening to podcasts recently ... previously i used to just play music or quran ... depending on what i feel like ... and even the music can be arabic or english ... depending on what i feel like ... so there are a lot of podcasts out there ... i mean a lot ... so i was like which podcasts should i subscribe to ... there were the obvious choices ... the espn ones ... like the nba today and around the horn and pardon the interruption ... also the thundering herd ... but i don't have a one track mind ... i care about other things besides sports ... so i subscribed to keith olbermann's countdown ... also the rachel maddow show ... i don't necessarily agree with them but i find them entertaining ... beats rush limbaugh or glenn beck any day ... i also subscribed to a couple of playstation podcasts ... but i think i'm going to unsubscribe from them ... because oh my god they are too geeky ... i mean i enjoy playing videogames but listening to these people talk in such depth about games is a bit much ... i also subscribed to some jazeera ones ... ittijah il mu3akis for example ... so anyone have any podcasts they want to recommend for me ... moving on ... work is exhausting ... i almost made a big mistake the other day ... one that would have gotten me in some trouble but i was saved ... so that was a big phew ... hamdulila ... i'm probably going to go home next weekend ... visit my parents ... probably the last time i ever visit that home ... it's starting to look that way ... sob ... oh well ... life goes on ... i will close with this ... how about that lakers heat christmas game ... are the heat legit now ... well the lakers have been in a slump lately ... they lost to frickin milwaukee the other day ... i think the heat have finally shaken off the bad start they got off to ... but it's all going to waste unless they win the championship ... anything less is unacceptable ... so yes they deserve credit for the victory and yes they seem to have finally gotten their shit together ... but let's not get too excited ... until they hoist up that trophy i refuse to be impressed ... in conclusion i leave you with a song ... good night ...

focused on the game

last night was game 1 of the nba finals ... lakers won ... but the most popular clip of the game was not some spectacular dunk ... or fancy pass ... in fact it wasn't even a play at all ... it was kobe bryant appearing to be hypnotized while chris rock tries to talk to him ...

thunder's season comes to an end

well the thunder's season came to a heartbreaking end last night ... they were down seven with less than five minutes to go in the fourth quarter ... they came back and managed to get up by 3 only to lose by one point thanks to a tip-in by that gangly bastard pau gasol with 0.5 seconds remaining ... oh what cruel folly ... still it was beautiful ... i will admit that had they won the game the series would have gone back to los angeles for a decisive game 7 which the lakers probably would have won but now we'll never know ... like i said it was beautiful nonetheless ... this team won 23 games last season and nobody expected them to even make the playoffs this year much less give the defending champs such a hard battle ... it was very sweet when the buzzer sounded and the fans even though they knew the season had just ended for their team continued to cheer and gave them a standing ovation ... because what a season ... there's always next year ...

anyway ... looking at the bigger picture ... only one first round series has not yet been decided ... that is the hawks and bucks ... doesn't matter because whoever advances will be crushed by the magic in the next round ... celtics cavaliers play game 1 tonight looking forward to that ... gonna do my best to stay up and watch it live ... suns spurs should also be interesting but they don't play tonight ... god i love the playoffs ...

the new jersey nets just might set the worst record in nba history ... at the moment they have eight wins ... the previous record is nine ... there are 82 games in a season and this one is almost over ... they still have 11 games to go ... now obviously not a lot of fans are coming to the home games ... but some of the few that are have adopted a habit of wearing paper bags on their heads ... it's a way of saying we're ashamed to be here ... the other day the nets owner got into a heated exchange with a fan who was wearing a paperbag on his head ... apparently the owner walked over to the fan and asked him why he was wearing it and the guy responded by saying something along the lines of because the nets are such a great team ... the incident received some media attention so the nets pr people thought of a clever way to counter the negative publicity ... they came up with an offer where fans could trade in their paper bags for goodie bags containing nets merchandise at the next home game ... so did it work?

Nets spokesman Barry Baum said two people accepted the exchange offer by halftime.

then again .. maybe those two people were the only ones in attendance ..
