cars and nostalgia

so my car is in the shop ... going to be there for a while so i rented a car .. it has that new car smell because well it's a new car .. so now every time i drive it .. i come out smelling like new car .. which i consider an offensive odor .. so that sucks .. on the other hand .. i usually listen to my ipod when i drive .. i have one of those car kits where it's a cassette with a headphone jack coming out of it .. but the car i'm renting doesn't have a cassette deck .. it only has a cd player .. so i got out my cd folder .. more like dug it out .. oh the dust on that thing .. anyway as i looked through the museum that is my ancient cd collection .. god when was the last time i bought a cd .. anyway .. so i'm looking through the folder and i find all these mix cd's i made back in college .. i was like sweet let's listen to this shit .. i've listened to about three of them so far .. wonderful memories .. also a lot of love songs .. i had such passion back then .. now i'm dead inside ..

harley carla

while driving home for lunch today .. suddenly i felt the very loud very powerful sound of a harley davidson roaring .. and i looked around me to see where is this beast making all this noise .. only to realize it was my car .. as it turned out there was something wrong with my exhaust system .. no biggie .. got it fixed on the same day only cost 150 riyals .. but for a short time today .. my car kind of sounded like this ..

well my car is in the shop until monday .. turns out the cooling fans no longer work .. which explains why the temperature would rise every time i put the ac on .. and the weather is hot enough with ac on let me tell you so there's no way i'm driving without it .. anyway .. i'm fixin it ..

the last time i went home i took back a ton of cheese pastries ... they're sort of finger size croissants with jibne baida inside ... so i've been eating a lot of them ... but then it got boring ... so i started eating them with dip ... i tried barbecue sauce ... mustard ... strawberry jam ... all delicious ...
in other news ... my car should be ready tomorrow ... inshala ...

well there was a chance my car would be ready today but apparently it needs at least another two days ... tanheedeh ...

poor baby

my car is almost back ... i got the call that it was ready on tuesday ... went with my friend to go see it ... it was running now ... the engine had been replaced ... however ... the windshield was still broken ... the car was still very much wet and now there were mosquitoes living inside ... also there were some electrical problems ... not so bad that you couldn't drive it ... but so bad that you shouldn't drive it ... anyway so i paid the guy and left ... funny story about the shop where i got the engine replaced ... the man who manages the place goes by abu hassan ... as does my dad ... so i like to think that was a good omen ... it was fate ... a sign ... no coincidence ... but i digress ... anyway i drove it for less than a kilometer then decided to park because i wasn't comfortable driving it in this condition ... called my friend who was driving ahead of me and told him to pull over ... we agreed to call a tow truck to take it to the electrician instead of driving it there ... it was late so we called him the next morning ... the electrician said it needed some parts ... lovely ... anyway he fixed it ... now it's at the cleaners ... it will be there for another three days ... yes it needs that much cleaning ... then it's back to the electrician ... for some final touches ... and then it's mine ... i plan on taking it to a mechanic once it's ready for a full check just to make sure everything has been taken care of ... then it will be just like old days ... me and my car back together ... but once the rush of being reunited with my precious baby wears off ... then it's merely a countdown to the day i sell it ... which i'm guessing will occur within the year ... and then i buy a brand new one ... i've already started thinking of what i might get ... the new hyundais are pretty slick ... maybe it's time to go japanese ... we will see ...

i rented a car today ... for one month ... i got it for what is equal to twenty dollars a day ... it's a 2011 mitsubishi lancer ... i don't like it ... but i had no choice ... i've been without a car for almost a week now ... and it looks like it will be a while before i get my car back ... at least a month ... oh how i miss my baby ... which brings us to the song of the day ... i dedicate it to my carla ... that's my car's name for those who don't know ...

stupid vacuum booster

the thing in the picture is called a vacuum booster ... here's how it works ...

last week my brakes stopped working properly so i had to take my car to the shop ...

the diagnosis ... they had to replace the vacuum booster ...

the damage ... 1150 riyals ... that's about 300 dollars ...

200 parts for the labor ... 950 for the effing vacuum booster ...
