Another One Rides The Bus

In the past three days, I’ve been on two 15 hour bus rides. One going to Jeddah, and the other coming back from Jeddah. Riding the bus is a dreadful experience. For many reasons. I think the main reason is that it's exhausting and it seems to take forever. Furthermore, not to sound like a snob or anything, but the bus tends to be popular with the "riffraff" demographic which can sometimes be a nuisance (choosing the right bus company can help reduce this problem).
But this being a domestic trip, it really wasn't that bad. It was just long. The reason domestic trips are better is that a) you are spared the torture of having to cross any borders, and b) there usually aren't that many passengers which means empty seats which means it's actually possible to lie down when you want to sleep :)
When you ride the bus in KSA, there's nothing to look at out the window. No scenery, just sand. Sand as far as the eye can see. You should always bring along something to read or listen to or play with or some sleeping pills or something. If you plan on just sitting there staring out the window, rest assured that you are going to lose your mind.
