Along the way you will encounter istirahat, or rest stops. The basic istiraha consists of a gas station, a little minimarket, and a car repair shop. Of course some are more elaborate and might have a hotel, a restaurant, a place for arageel, a gift shop, or even a cassette shop sometimes. I never eat at the istirahat, hell I don't even try their tea. I just go to the minimarket, buy some chips, some biscuits, maybe a chocolate bar, some juice and that's it. You have to keep in mind that these places cater mainly to truckers. At night, the istirahat look cool. They are illuminated by neon lights which are usually arranged in a nice pattern. The basic ones just have your standard white neon lighting. Some go the extra mile by trying to do a color scheme thing (i.e. they add green and purple). Some go even further and add “Christmas” lighting.
I’ve gone on so many bus rides in my life. To school. To Jordan. Around the compound. Most recently to Riyadh and to Jeddah. Ahhh the bus.
** These are the people I travel with.
