chain of events
first nabih berri - leader of the amal movement - was re-elected as speaker of the parliament a few days ago ... his supporters celebrated by firing into the air ...
then saad hariri - leader of the future movement - was elected as the new prime minister ... and his supporters celebrated by firing into the air ...
and today it was reported that amal supporters and future supporters fired at each other ...

so if you haven't heard already michael jackson is dead ... who cares right ... anyway so a lot of my "friends" on facebook have devoted their statuses to this news item ... one was particulary melodramatic saying "music died" ... i can't help but wonder how many of those guys actually own a michael jackson album ...

Quote of the Day
i used to have this quote on my wall back in college ...
“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.”
Albert Camus

i wanna use your lips as chapstick ...
although .. it's not very masculine to invoke chapstick now is it .. guess that's not the smoothest line i've ever come up with ..

occasionally he would speak if he felt the need ... but most of the time he was silent ...

"I've been wearing it 4-5 years now, and it helped me get to the NBA. They didn't say anything about it when I signed the contract, so it's not going anywhere. I don't think they are paying me enough to take it off.''

Road Monster

A handout photo released by Joseph Carnevale shows a sculpture made of traffic barrels by Carnevale in Raleigh, N.C.. Carnevale says he didn't have a grandiose point to make when he chopped up orange-and-white traffic barrels and turned them into a massive statue of a hitchhiking roadside monster. But the North Carolina college student has become a celebrity artist of sorts since city police charged him with possession of stolen goods. And now, the construction company whose barrels he took wants to keep the statue.(AP Photo/Courtesy of Joseph Carnevale)

i don't get it
regarding the controversy surrounding the iranian elections ... i have to say that i just don't get it ... i mean if the ruling council has to give its stamp of approval to any candidate who wishes to run for president ... so why would they allegedly rig the elections ... it doesn't make any sense to me ... i mean doesn't the system entail that they're fine with whoever wins ... so again ... what possible motive could they have to tamper with the votes?

One Year

it's been a year since i moved to riyadh ... i thought about writing a post to commemorate this occasion ... but decided against it ... i actually started writing it but changed my mind halfway through it ... mostly because there just wasn't anything to write about ... at least nothing interesting anyway ... if you know that song by nine inch nails ... every day is exactly the same ... yeah that about sums it up ...
so instead just click here and read some of my posts which were written a year ago when i first moved here ...

Star Trek

i saw the star trek movie ... normally i would not watch this movie ... i'm just not into this stuff ... i haven't even seen any of the star wars films ... i tried watching one once but turned it off less than half an hour into it ... but everyone who has seen this movie said it's awesome ... i'm not a trekkie person and i've never been a fan of sci-fi in general so i was hesitant to see it ... but i succumbed to the power of the almighty rave reviews and watched it ... it doesn't suck but i didn't enjoy it ... i just didn't ... i was rather bored by it ... it's just too much of this ...
computer set coordinates for planet vulcan ... i wouldn't do that sir ... why not lieutenant ... because i sense a romulan ambush sir ... computer change coordinates to deep space nine ... it's not possible sir ... warp speed already activated and the time continuum does not allow renavigation ... captain i think you better see this ... i'm picking up a black hole ...
ugh ...

The Fast and the Furious

i saw the new fast and furious movie ... they brought back the old cast for this one ... i've seen the first two but i didn't see the tokyo drift one ... i liked the first one they made but the second one sucked hard ... and so did this one ... it is the same format as all the other movies in the series ... crazy cars doing crazy things ... hot girls wearing next to nothing ... a lot of mean mugging ... and a lame story ... unfortunately there's too much lame story and not enough crazy cars doing crazy things ... this movie is a piece of crap ...

i saw xmen origins: wolverine ... special effects are insane ... his body is pretty insane too ... he is really really buff ... story is okay but nothing profound ... but the special effects are insane ... i know i said that already ... but that's because they are the only thing you will remember when you are done watching this movie ... so if you want to be blown away by some insane special effects check it out ... 7/10 ... also i thought liev schreiber did a better job than hugh jackman ...

Priceless
In a sign of growing concern in Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government over US President Barack Obama's Middle East policies, Minister-without-Portfolio Yossi Peled proposed Israeli sanctions on the US in a letter to cabinet ministers on Sunday.
In the 11-page letter, obtained by The Jerusalem Post from a minister on Monday, Peled recommends steps Israel can take to compensate for the shift in American policy, which he believes has become hostile to Israel.

Book Review: Holes
holes is written by louis sachar ... sachar is a great author and i have read some of his work previously ... the only problem is his books are not that adult ... but they are always very funny and very clever ...so the book is about a guy called stanley ... stanley is sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he did not commit ... at the camp he and the rest of the boys are forced to dig holes all day ... the warden says that she makes them do this to build their character ... but stanley thinks she is looking for some kind of treasure ... and that is all i can tell you without ruining the story ...
if you can get past the fact that it's not an adult book then you will definitely love it ... or you could just watch the movie ...
for my next book i will be reading something a little more adult ... the road by cormac mccarthy ...

Zionism = Terrorism
The current issue of Moment magazine dedicates its "Ask the Rabbis" section to the question "How Should Jews Treat Their Arab Neighbors?"
Rabbis from various denominations offered responses, but it's the final one -- from a Chabad rabbi, Manis Friedman of the St. Paul-based Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies -- that is likely to spark the most reaction:
I don’t believe in western morality, i.e. don’t kill civilians or children, don’t destroy holy sites, don’t fight during holiday seasons, don’t bomb cemeteries, don’t shoot until they shoot first because it is immoral.
The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle).
The first Israeli prime minister who declares that he will follow the Old Testament will finally bring peace to the Middle East. ...

So Soon?
The team of UN investigators assigned to probe war crimes committed during the22-day offensive against the Gaza Strip arrived on Monday morning into the Gaza Strip.
and as you might have guessed ...
Israel said that it will not cooperate in the investigation. Israel's Foreign Ministry stated previously that the committee is coming to the region with the intent to show Israel as the guilty party, and decided that cooperating with the committee would be meaningless.
