u have western conference and eastern conference .. eight teams face off in the playoffs of each conference .. three rounds in each conference .. each round is best of 7 .. winner of each conference face off in the finals .. finals is also best of 7.
previously the first round was best of 5 and the remaining rounds were best of 7.
u could say they do this because they want the better team to advance ..
