Looking Back At The War

The war on gaza … remember that … which one was that again … oh right it was only like three months ago … something like a 1000 dead … yeah sounds familiar … does anybody care anymore … ugh that’s like so five minutes ago … when it was “in” to wrap a kuffiyeh around your neck … stop drinking starbucks for a while … maybe post a few photos on facebook of dead children … possibly write a blog post about how sad it makes you feel to watch your people get massacred so easily … yeah well I still remember … kind of … anyway about that war … here’s the thing that sur … I was gonna say surprised me … but no … the thing that shocked me the most about that war … I say shocked because it truly shook me to the core … surprised seems like an understatement … so what shocked me about that war … was not israel’s brutality … not like we haven’t seen that before … we know what they’re capable of … and so I wasn’t expecting anything different from the genocide that took place … what shocked me about that war … was not the arab complicity … even the Ramallah complicity … we all know who they work for … I certainly wasn’t expecting them to pick up their swords and go fight … although I long for the days when they used to pretend to care … I long for those fiery statements of empty rhetoric … nobody makes the effort to pretend anymore … they didn’t even bother having a summit this time … well they did but it was too little too late basically … they had two summits actually … they don’t get along so well you know … another thing they no longer pretend to do … getting along that is … but I digress … so yeah here’s what shocked me about that war … it was to hear people … and by people here I mean just normal people … I don’t mean our leaders and I certainly don’t mean the media that repeats what they say in a better way so we might actually believe it … so yeah it shocked me to hear people saying that this war was the Palestinian people’s fault somehow … more specifically hamas … I mean if you’re one of those who says look I feel for you but there’s nothing we can do … I may not agree with that but I can see your point of view … you don’t think freeing Palestine is worth giving up our iPods and BMWs for … I respect that … it’s your opinion … but hey … at least you feel for me right … thanks man … but to tell me this is the Palestinians’ fault … come on … I mean sure we saw it in the 2006 war on Lebanon … where people blamed the resistance for the war … and they kind of had a point … but I guess the anti-shia sentiments played a major role in that opinion … because I don’t remember people blaming saddam like that … anyway … so yeah it’s happened before in Lebanon … but that didn’t shock me so much … but this isn’t southern Lebanon … this is Palestine … it’s the rally cry of the arab people … it’s the arab cause … it’s the qadiyeh for god’s sake … are we actually blaming the Palestinians for having the audacity to resist … whatever happened to the days when we used to glorify the intifada … I guess those days are over … I remember reading one comment on a certain online forum where an arab guy said that hamas “asked for it” … asked for it … hamas asked to be bombed this way … really … they say well hamas decided not to renew the truce and now they have to face the music … really … ok … can I ask why they didn’t renew the truce … I mean you make it sound like it all started when they decided not to renew the truce … like that was the first page … like nothing ever happened before that … come on … let’s have a slightly longer memory … I’m not saying let’s go all the way back to 1948 when Palestine was stolen by the Zionists … but let’s try to have a slightly longer memory seriously … and maybe maybe when we think about everything that happened before that … we might just might be able to understand why they decided not to renew the truce … by the way the decision was a joint one by all the factions … not just hamas … they say hamas provoked Israel … oh really … so everything was great until hamas provoked Israel … Israel never did any provoking … is that what you’re telling me … oh Israel is allowed to provoke because they are untouchable … really … so are the Palestinians allowed to provoke at all … no … why not … oh hamas is launching rockets at Israel … they’re attacking Israel … why not say they’re defending Palestine … oh well … attacking defending whatever you want to call it … when you boil it down they are launching rockets at Israel … but they’re primitive rockets … be that as it may they’re still threatening Israel’s security … ok then I guess that gives Israel the right to kill a hundred people in a couple of hours …that’s 50 Palestinians for each Israeli those rockets have killed in the past two years … yeah that sounds about fair … gentile blood is cheaper you know … especially when it’s arab … then it’s basically free … how about this though … how about the next time someone looks at me funny I walk over there and bash his head in with a metal pipe … until his skull turns to powder … yeah that sounds about fair too no … sure why not … the Palestinian people are not entirely innocent though … fucking politically divided like that … although it’s not really their fault they are politically divided but the fact remains that they are politically divided … and in a nasty way … not in a democrat republican way … but to blame this war on them … that’s just too much … downright shameful is what that is … to hear people saying things like that … seeing arab people actually believing the Zionist propaganda … I have to admit it just shocked me … I might even say … it broke my heart … but not my will … Palestine will be free …
