well the first round is almost over ... my predictions were mostly correct ... out of the eight series that were played, i was wrong about two of them ... 75% ... not bad.
first of all i picked the wizards to beat the cavs ... i was wrong about that one ... however i thought gilbert arenas would be healthy when i made my prediction ... as it turns out he still had not healed completely and he missed the last two games of the series ... so i refuse to take any heat for choosing the wrong team.
the second mistake was picking the mavericks over the hornets ... ok this one was a mistake i admit ... i thought that the mavericks would be hungrier ... after all these guys were the western conference champs two years ago ... and they were #1 in the west last year before being embarrassed in the first round ... i thought they would be eager to redeem themselves ... plus they have more playoff experience ... but i underestimated just how good chris paul really is ... but never again.
one series remains to be decided ... the celtics and the hawks ... this is the only series to go to a decisive game 7 ... whoever wins will advance ... ironically almost everyone - including myself - predicted that boston would sweep the series ... seeing as how they own the best record in the league whereas the hawks just barely made it into the postseason ... however the home team has won every game so far in this series ... so if that pattern continues, boston will advance ... but even if atlanta loses they still deserve a lot of credit ... first of all for making the playoffs and second for pushing the celtics so close to the edge ... they are finally back on the radar.
and now for my second round predictions :-)
WESTERN CONFERENCE
Lakers - Jazz
this one is tough to call ... makes you go hmmm ... the lakers could really use bynum in this series to match up with all of utah's big men ... unfortunately he is sidelined with an injury and it doesn't look like he will be coming back ... nevertheless i'm going to say lakers ... i predict that kobe - who will be feeling good about finally winning mvp - will tear the jazz a new one in this series and prove to everyone that he deserves the award ... expect at least a couple of 40 point games from number 24.
Spurs - Hornets
after owning jason kidd in the previous series ... chris paul needs to own tony parker in this one ... but then again tony parker just owned steve nash ... arguably the best point guard in the league ... so after the way they handled phoenix in the first round i have to go with the spurs.
EASTERN CONFERENCE
Cavs - Celtics
of course it might be the cavs versus the hawks but i am assuming that the celtics will win game 7 ... if that is the case, then i pick the celtics ... if not, go hawks!
Magic - Pistons
most of the experts would probably choose detroit but i like orlando's chances seeing as how they have more energy ... we saw how the younger sixers gave the pistons trouble in the first round ... plus the pistons are tired whereas the magic are all rested and ready to go.
