i've lived alone before ... i lived in lebanon for four years during college ... here are some photos of my room in those days ... and it was fine ... well except for the part when the war happened ... ahhh good times.
so this is not the first time i move out of the house ... but this time it's different in the sense that i'm not going off to school ... i'm going off to work ... but anyway my point is that i'm not exactly a virgin when it comes to this stuff.
moving out does have its benefits ...
for example it's probably the best opportunity to lose all that weight i've gained since moving back home.
another benefit is the freedom and independence ... in other words, my house my rules.
one thing i am kind of looking forward to is the social life ... i actually have a few friends up in riyadh ... and while social life in ksa is crude and primitive ... anything is better than the fat zero i've been living since moving back home.
and those are really the only benefits i can think of ... well i guess i could add "building character" as a benefit if i wanted to be lame.
the disadvantages of moving out ...
first and foremost ... nobody is there to pamper you e.g. cook for you, clean your mess, do your laundry ... basically no more free housekeeping.
in addition to this ... there is the reduced standard of living ... meaning you will probably be moving into a place that is not as nice as your house ... so that takes a little getting used to.
and of course all this translates into more expenses ... you have to buy meals ... pay rent ... all that shit ... meaning you get to save less of your salary.
and yes the whole being away from your family thing ... but there is such a thing as telephone ... plus i can visit whenever i want ... tis not far - riyadh is only five hours away from dhahran so it's not like i'm going to the north pole ... 45 minutes if you fly ... plus i'm at that age where i shouldn't be living at home anyway.
but it all balances out in a yin-yang sort of way.
and finally ... i want to take a second to talk about abbreviations ... for dhahran it's DHA ... for jeddah it's JED ... but for riyadh it's RUH ... where did they get the "u" from ... that's what i want to know ... then again, dubai's abbreviation is DXB.

I think you should try and make your place as nice as you can. It's where you'll spend all of your time when you're not working and if it's not a nice place you'll be miserable.
My husband lived alone for more than 10 yrs before we got married and it made him a more dependent and dependable man ;)
I betcha Dublin took the DUB and left Dubai with DXB.
Most probably Riyadh same thing.
It's like WWF , (world wrestling Federation) they had to change it to WWE , entertainment, because World Wild Federation wanted it.
Also the Toronto Stock Exchange TSE had to change to TSX because Tokyo wanted it.
OK enough silly trivia.
Good luck. :)
