Israel has no better friends in the world than Christian Zionists, Likud opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.
"This is a friendship of the heart, a friendship of common roots, and a friendship of common civilization," Netanyahu told a conference of American Evangelicals in Jerusalem.
The event, which was organized by the San Antonio, Texas-based Christians United for Israel, drew 1,000 Israel supporters led by the conservative evangelical Pastor John Hagee, who has been a stalwart supporter of Israel for the past three decades.
"Turning part or all of Jerusalem over to the Palestinians would be tantamount to turning it over to the Taliban," Hagee said.
Hagee on Sunday announced donations of $6 million to a number of Israeli causes and declared that Israel must remain in control of all of Jerusalem. Hagee has united evangelical Christian supporters of Israel in the US under one umbrella organization, dubbed the Christian Aipac, which focuses solely on support for Israel and does not work to convert Jews to Christianity.

Hi Mo.
I am a Christian. I found your link from Culture Watch.com, another blog you commented on.
This brand of Christianity is ridiculous, is it not? Pro-Israel has nothing to do with Christ, and more to do with American patriotism and foreign policy. I mean, a Christian group working soley on a pro-Israel platform...frankly has no biblical basis.
the world needs more christians like you :)
the rationale is that they are facilitating the "second coming" by supporting israel ..
look at what BBC says about hagee ..
John Hagee is the pastor of the 18,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, and a long-time fervent supporter of Israel.
In common with many American evangelicals, he believes that God gave the land to the Jewish people and that Christians have a Biblical duty to support it and the Jews.
His latest book, Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World, interprets the Bible to predict that Russian and Arab armies will invade Israel and be destroyed by God.
This will set up a confrontation over Israel between China and the West, led by the anti-Christ, who will be the head of the European Union, Pastor Hagee writes.
That final battle between East and West - at Armageddon, as the actual Israeli location of Meggido is known in English - will precipitate the second coming of Christ, he concludes.

I can't stand talk like that. I certainly believe that Christ will return in triumph and all that jazz. However, people like Hagee who have a whole series of events mapped out and believe in the rapture and heavy dispensationalism are, I think, so far off the mark. Thinking that they are hastening the second coming by supporting Israel is all tied up with that stuff. Geez it annoys me. The 'Left Behind' book series precipitates all this stuff too.
I think it would be wise for these people to remember that the Jews were expecting the Messiah to establish an earthly Kingdom when he arrived. Christ proclaimed a different Kingdom; a Kingdome of God, which is within us, and outworked through our actions as believers. Eventually, I believe, Christ will establish a Kingdom on a new Earth, along with a new Heaven.
The Jews who were expecting an earthly kingdom, sadly, ended up missing the boat. I wonder whether these guys are that far off the mark? Cheers Jundi.
