Happy Halloween

well halloween is only a couple of days away .. it's still on october 31st isn't it .. by the way did you know halloween is actually a celtic holiday .. it's pure paganism .. but i digress ..
and so .. time to reminisce ..
picture becomes blurry - enter flashback mode ..

the first halloween i had was in preschool .. i remember not having a costume .. but never fear .. the miss, miss nada that is, had costumes for those of us who did not have costumes .. i am trying to remember what she dressed me up as but it's not coming to me ..

then there were the school halloweens .. these were much more extravagant .. the halls would be decorated .. everyone would dress up .. more often than not i didn't have a costume .. although on a few occasions i did dress up .. but it was nothing in comparison to some of the other kids .. in general the american kids always outdid the arab kids when it came to costumes .. they just put more effort into the process .. i remember they always had a halloween parade where the whole school would walk around outside so everyone could see what everyone else dressed up as .. and i remember it was always the same song every year during the parade - the ghostbusters song .. you know the words .. when there's something strange .. in the neighborhood .. who you gonna call .. ghostbusters!!! .. and of course there would always be a halloween party .. yum yum .. i remember fifth grade was probably the best one .. the food was delicious that day ..

i remember in third grade .. mr. anderson's class .. he bought a pumpkin so we could carve it .. i still remember him telling us how expensive it is to get a decent pumpkin in ksa .. i remember we put together a haunted house that year .. i remember someone using shaving cream for something involved in the haunted house .. but i can't remember what it was .. and the shaving cream became rotten somehow .. apparently shaving cream can go bad if left out in the open air .. anyway it smelled like shit .. i remember the school principal mr. seibold would dress up as the joker every year .. and every year he would go from class to class looking for anyone dressed up as batman .. i remember in sixth grade my friend rony dressed up as billie joe - the lead singer from green day .. and i went trick-or-treating with him and a couple of other people .. that was the last year that i went trick-or-treating i think .. i don't remember going in seventh grade .. or did i .. i remember going trick-or-treating with this kid called tareq one year .. and when i went to his house to meet up and go .. it turned out his dad was going to come along .. and we were in like third or fourth grade at the time .. i remember feeling like such a loser walking around with him and his dad .. it was humiliating .. i think i stopped liking tareq after that .. anyway these are a few of my halloween memories .. trick-or-treating was always the best part though .. the next day people would brag about how late they stayed out .. or how big of an area they covered .. or how big their bag was .. or how a week later they are still eating from their trick-or-treat candy .. i remember halloween being the only time of year where you eat candy corn .. i also remember that eating too much candy corn makes you sick .. ahhh .. good times ..

around this time of year .. you would have seen so many decorated houses on camp .. some people would just place a few jack-o-lanterns here and there .. maybe a skeleton or two .. and then you had some people who really went all out .. they would make elaborate haunted houses .. some people put scarecrows and what not .. but those were the old days .. not anymore .. those days are gone forever .. i think this year i've seen only one house with decorations .. and it was one of those cheap plastic pumpkins ones you just put over a lightbulb ..

jerry seinfeld does a great bit about halloween and trick-or-treating .. it's absolutely hilarious ..

and now i leave you with these pictures of vomiting pumpkins .. enjoy ..
