Manchester City acquired by Abu Dhabi United Group have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Brazilian forward Robinho from Real Madrid for a British record transfer fee of about 32.5 million pounds ($61.6 million).

Manchester City may make a world record $240 million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo when player trades resume in January, Arabian Business reported, citing the English Premier League soccer team's new owner.
The Manchester United winger is the top target of Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, which agreed to buy City two days ago, the magazine said on its Web site today. A trade at $240 million would be almost four times the record $64.5 million Real Madrid paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.
"Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160 million but for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more, I would think $240 million," the magazine cited Sulaiman Al Fahim, a board member of the new owner, as saying.
