an old movie starring the great duraid lahham ... it is very very old ... yet just as relevant today ... that's because we as arabs have not advanced since this movie was made ... if anything we have regressed ... anyway i have seen this movie before ... but i was not old enough or not wise enough if you will to fully understand it ... but recently i decided to download it ... don't ask me why ... and i just finished watching it ... loved it ... it reminded me of naji el-ali's cartoons ...

what's hot right now
it seems metros are the latest fashion accessory that rich gulf countries must have ... dubai got one and all the other girls got jealous ...
Just two months after Dubai unveiled its plush metro system, Qatar announced it will build its own multibillion-dollar railway that will include a local metro in Doha, its capital, as well as freight and passenger trains to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia via the world's longest causeway.
The railway is expected to cost $25 billion and be completed by 2026, but officials are eager to have sections up and running by 2022, when Qatar hopes to host the World Cup, Reuters reported.
The deal between Qatari Diar, a real estate investment company owned by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, and the German transport company Deutsche Bahn was announced today.
The contract comes against a background of increased spending on rail projects by the oil-rich Arab gulf states that is expected to exceed $100 billion.

inappropriateness
there was "miss university" on mtv yesterday ... that's the lebanese mtv ... not the mtv known across the world ... miss aub did not win though she did get miss photogenic ... anyway ... i wasn't really watching ... sort of had it on in the background while i was on the laptop ... it was extremely lame but the girls were pretty what can i say ... anyway i wanted to talk about the music that they were playing whenever the girls had to do a little catwalk ... some of it was really inappropriate ... lyrics like "put it in your mouth pull your g-string down south" ... i'm not kidding ... and something about "booty" ... then again it's a beauty pageant so i guess it wasn't all that inappropriate ... but witty comments aside ... it really was inappropriate ...

paranormal activity
this is supposed to be a scary movie ... and some parts kind of were ... it is filmed like a home video ... a guy and his girlfriend ... and they suspect their house is haunted ... and they are filming themselves to try and discover what is going on ... anyway ... it's not terrible ... but certainly not worth all the buzz it generated ... 3/10 ...

Palin Za3laneh
The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness - a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention - even if out of context.- Sarah Palin

i was watching msnbc on orbit news ... the ed show ... and they were talking about the fort hood shooting ... so one of the guests mentioned the word "eyemom" while he was talking ... and i was like huh ... what is an eye-mom ... is it some sort of eyeball capable of giving birth to baby eyeballs ... then i realized ... he means imam ...
home sweet home
well i'm home in dhahran ... flight was an hour late ... so thanks again sama ... got home around 2 in the morning ... everyone was asleep except one of my brothers ... meanwhile ... i raided the fridge ... and my oh my ... turns out my mom had a big gathering the day before i arrived ... a mbarakeh for my brother who got married this summer ... and the leftovers ... oh the leftovers ... there wasn't even enough room ... it was like crammed with food ... juices and soda and laban and every kind of drink there is ... kibbeh and sambusa and other pastries ... hummus and mtabbal and what not ... rices and meats and chicken and vegetables ... and all kinds of cakes and sweets ... i was like oh my ... i wanted to eat everything ... but i couldn't ... then of course the downloading ... our house has a super connection which i must abuse every time i come ... so i queued up the torrents and fell asleep ... what doesn't finish by the time i leave will be continued when i come in eid ... and here we are today ... leaving in the evening ...

role models
paul rudd and sean william-scott play two guys who market a sort of redbull product to schoolkids ... they are sentenced to 150 hours of community service after rudd has a little meltdown which involves destruction of school property ... they are sent to a big brother program ... rudd is paired up with a kid who is into dungeons and dragons played by the guy who was mclovin in superbad ... and william-scott is paired up with a naughty black kid ... and as expected things don't go so well ... this movie is really funny ... 9/10 ...
i now pronounce you chuck and larry
kevin james and adam sandler play two guys pretending to be a gay couple for pension reasons ... it's like kevin james wife died and he wants to name his kids as beneficiaries but some bureacratic complications stand in the way so marriage is the solution ... it sounds stupid doesn't it ... well it is ... it's also lame and manages to include every gay stereotype there is ... at least will and grace was funny ... 0/10 ... ok fine 1/10 for jessica biel's ass ...

notorious is a biopic ... if i have to tell you who it's about then you should not watch this movie ... on the other hand ... if you are familiar with the notorious b.i.g. and his music ... then you can watch it if you want ... but don't expect to be blown away ... it's a very average movie and full of cliches ... 4/10 ...and as a two-in-one ... here is the song of the day from the man himself ...

occupational hypocrisy
as a person working in the field of quality control ... i often have to issue these things called nonconformance reports ... a nonconformance is defined as a deviation from the standard or the requirement ... it is considered a no-no and should be eliminated or at least kept to a minimum ... so anyway i find it kind of ironic ... seeing as how i consider myself to be a nonconformist ...
